National Hot Dog Month is Here! Discover 3 Epic Ways to Celebrate

Foodies rejoice! It’s July, which means National Hot Dog Month is here! If you’re a fan of this classic American street food, read on to discover three epic ways to celebrate.

What is National Hot Dog Month?

National Hot Dog Month is an informal observance dedicated to the deliciousness of hot dogs. You can thank the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council for this mouthwatering annual event.

As for National Hot Dog Day, that falls on the third “Wiener Wednesday” in July. The date is determined by the North American Meat Institute’s annual Hot Dog Lunch, which is held on Capitol Hill.

German immigrants brought sausages (or frankfurters) to America in the 19th century. Since then, sausages - wrapped in sliced buns and drizzled with condiments - have become a staple of American cuisine, eaten everywhere from backyard BBQs to baseball games.

Three Ways to Celebrate National Hot Dog Month

  1. Host a Cookout

Invite friends and family over, fire up the grill, and hand out the beers! Serve up sausages with a variety of garnishes and condiments, from classic mustard and ketchup to gourmet toppings like avocado and bacon. Make it a party by hanging up decorations and a personalized BBQ sign like this one.

  1. Take Part in a Hot Dog Eating Contest

Eateries across the States offer hot dog deals on July 21st. So why not grab a buddy with a big appetite and hold your own hot dog eating contest? You’ll have fun – and feel full! – cramming in as many hot dogs as you can. Who will be the chomping champion?

  1. Rustle Up a New Hot Dog Recipe

Treat the family to a tasty new dish that puts hot dogs center stage. Try mac and cheese with sliced hot dogs mixed into the gooey sauce. Use hot dogs in place of ground beef in chili; sausages pair well with the rich, spicy flavors. Or how about whipping up some hot dog topped spaghetti? The culinary possibilities are endless!
